SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The realization of the long-awaited
extension of Amtrak’s Vermonter is right around the corner. It is
projected the train will reach the Canadian border to St. Albans with a new
stop along the way in Northampton
by the end of the year. With the completion of the continuously welded rail
north of Greenfield,, Vermont, the trip will be speedier too as higher track
speeds will now be possible.
Another
improvement in the speed of the Vermonter is the elimination of the changing
ends in Palmer, Massachusetts as a new northbound track path is being
completed.

So does this mean a second train route into Montreal is about to be established/restored or will this mean service only up to (but not across) the US/Canadian border? Are new stops being contemplated? I'd like to see the restoration of overnight service to and from Montreal to the U.S.
ReplyDeleteHard to determine though it appears to be at the very least a connection to the Adirondack. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it too but in light of Teabagger actions, not likely at this time. Overall, Amtrak's survival is at stake as a first order of business!
